Cancer. It is a scary word and a frightening diagnosis. It brings about sadness, anxiety, and fear. It challenges and consumes you, your family, your friends, your colleagues, and everyone around you. Yet it is also a gift. It brings the gift of knowledge, friendships, and strength. It helps you prioritize your life and focus on what’s important to you.
Upon being diagnosed with cancer, my family, friends and colleagues came together and offered an enormous amount of love, compassion, and support. Amid the myriad of flowers, plants, and presents, friend’s helped cook, set up doctor’s appointments, provide research and information, set up websites, drive to doctor’s appointments, support my caregivers, etc. The list goes on and on. This level of love and support helped me get through the 6+ rounds of chemo and put me on the road to survival.
Wipeout Cancer is about this community of support. It is an opportunity to grow the community and extend the support to others. It is increasing cancer awareness and bringing people together. Wipeout Cancer increases our knowledge, understanding and actions against this scary diseased called cancer, thus making us stronger individuals, friends, and family. Cancer is the “gift” that helped start Wipeout Cancer.
